Ego State Therapy and Couples

Our own Ego States are never more obvious than when we are in a close relationship - be it with a partner, our children, parents or best friends.

Because ego states develop in childhood, based on our relationships with the significant people in our lives, our daily interactions as an adult with those close to us brings states forward based on these past experiences - which are not necessarily the most appropriate.

When working with couples, Ego State awareness - including mapping and resolution, can be an extremely useful exercise in enabling us to act more appropriately in our important relationships.

This can be done individually, or in a combined session, where one is the observer for 20 minutes, listening and thus gaining a deeper understanding of a partner, and then swapping around.
